Swimming the horses in the sacred waters

Life on The Ranch: Mustering, Healing, and Sacred Rivers

Life on The Ranch on Clarence has been full of adventure, hard work, and discovery. We've been mustering cattle for our neighbors on horseback, which has been both rewarding and fun, putting our horses to the test as they navigate rugged terrain and work alongside the herd.

Our equine companions have also had their share of challenges, with a few needing care after an unfortunate run-in with a barbed wire fence (if I had my way barbwire would be a thing of the past!). Thankfully, our tried-and-true remedy of raw fermented honey has worked wonders, and they are healing beautifully.

A surprise visitor has been hanging around lately—a stray Rottweiler, clearly drawn in by Daisy, our beautiful Maremma, who is currently in heat. It's been interesting keeping an eye on this unexpected guest while ensuring the safety of our own animals.

Meanwhile, we’ve been carefully selecting a few special mares to join Fantom, our Friesian stallion, and Hidalgo, our Andalusian stallion. The future foals from these pairings will surely be something special, continuing the legacy of strong, intelligent, and beautifully moving horses.

We’ve also had Trav from @black_dingo_fencing out here, helping us create new fenced yards. His craftsmanship has been top-notch, and these improvements will make a huge difference in managing our herd and maintaining safe spaces for training and turnout.

But perhaps the absolute highlight of the past few weeks has been the discovery of a breathtaking new trail leading down to Rocky River, or Timbarra River from our side of the mountain. These crystal-clear waters, sandy bottoms, and massive boulders create a landscape that feels truly sacred. We’ve been told this is sacred women’s country, and the energy there is undeniable. When we rode our horses down to the river and stepped into the waters, a deep peace settled over us. Some horses stood completely still, entering a tranquil state, while the younger ones excitedly played, lying down and rolling in the refreshing shallows.

This powerful experience has inspired us to offer the Sacred Rivers and Wild Hearts Trek, bringing others to this stunning place where the connection between horse, human, and nature can be truly felt.
